Blog : What is favicon? & How to create Favicon?

Favicon is a small image which is shown inside the browser’s location bar. It appears next to the site name in bookmark list menu, beside the url of a website or webpage and next to the page’s title in a tabbed document interface. It is a good way to brand your site and increase it’s prominence in your visitor’s bookmark menu.

The favicon greatly help  to identify a blog or website & It improve the look of your blog. Favicon also helps you to brand your web site. The favicon are able to individuate your site inside bookmark

Favicon can be created by using several techniques:

You can create Favicon using Windows icon photoshop plugin(Standard photoshop won’t support .ico.), MS Paint & web tools.  Desig the favicon in photoshop, adjust the image size to 16X16 and name it as favicon.icon directly.

It is better to use MS Paint if your are not familiar with photoshop. It is easy & simple to follow. create  your own favicon and save it as .JPEG file in MS paint. And you can convert the JPEG image into favicon.ico file by using favIconPics

After designing the favicon.ico file you should upload it to your site. Just make sure you place it in the root directory, which is the directory where the index file is located.

Google is putting more efforts on search Quality, so that the user feel more relevance and reasons to search on Google. There are several principles google use in getting you to the information you need as quickly as possible:

Tips To Engage Readers

Create a blog just for your readers and subscribers, and publish a good comment in the site.

Choose one post generates a lot of good comments (no flame wars!), publish those to keep the conversation going.

Create mini-sites around specific topics or seasons. Populate them with reader-generated content. Be clear that the content comes from readers. Highlight the link to the form or email address where readers can send their content.

Add video content to your website and link to it in forums & groups. Also, patrol video-sharing sites like YouTube and promote any that relate. Promote the link and provide detailed instructions on how to upload content.

Add a small bit of content to your commercial email messages (not transactional emails). This could be the reader-generated content or something you write to bring the website closer to your subscribers, such as an editor’s note, inspirational quote or reader comment. But, proceed carefully. Introduce the content gradually and watch your feedback addresses and delivery reports to see if people love or hate your new approach. After all, you may be taking a much different course from what your readers want.

Give away a prize in each issue and then spotlight the winner. And not just any prize, but something you know your readership would want, either tied to your regular promotion, a new product introduction, a paid download, a subscription or the like.

A few warning as important as it is to build value by making your readers active participants, you do need to watch out for three big traps:

Keep it relevant. Anything you add must relate to your topic. Don’t just stick in a joke of the day or a trivia fact to fill space. Also, remember what your message is supposed to do.

Do readers want it as much as you do? Test and retest before you launch a major change. Survey a sample of your reader base for reactions and suggestions.

When you go live with your new format, scrutinise. Study your feedback emails and watch your delivery reports, in case you start generating more spam complaints and unsubscribes. Don’t pull back immediately, but listen carefully to what your readers will tell you.
